Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order of 2005 brought together many different pieces of law to clearly state what your obligations are as an employer to protect your premises, your people and your visitors. Failure to comply with the Order not only puts your business and your buildings at risk, but could also cost you significantly in fines and prosecutions. It may even cost lives, which no amount of money can replace.
How Many Fire Marshals Do I Need?
One of the key requirements under the rules is that you appoint and provide training for an appropriate number of fire marshals, also known as fire wardens. There are no hard and fast rules on numbers, but the Order makes recommendations based on the nature of your business, the layout of your business buildings and the number of staff and visitors involved. We will be happy to work with you to decide how many fire marshals you need.
Fire Marshal Training in Portsmouth
The idea behind fire marshals is to have someone within the workforce who volunteers to take responsibility for the fire safety of a designated area, and the people within that area. It is their job to reduce fire risks and ensure that fire precautions are effective. This includes making sure fire exits are not blocked and that fire doors can close properly to slow down a fire.
In an emergency, it is their role to step up and take charge, facilitating a swift and safe evacuation, assisting any stragglers and checking that their area is clear before leaving themselves.
In House Training
Naturally, when it comes to learning about fire safety in your buildings, it is best if that training is delivered on site. This means we can show the kind of hazards that need to be avoided and the day to day risks to fire safety. This is much more effective than classroom based training and can save valuable time in an emergency situation.
Our fire warden training in Portsmouth takes just four hours and leads to a certificate of attendance through a process of continual assessment. This certificate fulfils your obligations as an employer.
