Fire Scotland Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) regulations 2006
Fire safety in Scotland is covered by two pieces of legislation, which detail what you are obliged to do to protect your workforce. This legislation guides you on issues such as fire safety awareness training for all employees, and sets out the requirement for all companies to appoint a number of fire marshals, or fire wardens, within the workforce. Failure to comply not only risks prosecution, but also puts your reputation, your business and even your employees’ lives at risk.
How Many Fire Marshals Do I Need?
You will need to undertake a fire risk assessment as part of your fire safety strategy, assessing the risk level of your operations, the layout of your buildings and the number of people involved. The more dangerous or spread out your business is, the more fire marshals you will need. Even relatively low risk offices will still need one fire marshal for each floor of larger buildings, while heavy oil industries will need many more. Our team will be happy to advise you on numbers.
Fire Marshal Training in Aberdeen
Fire marshals are usually volunteers, who take on extra responsibilities for fire safety. This includes reducing risks on a daily basis, by encouraging fire awareness, checking escape routes and maintaining fire precautions such as fire doors and extinguishers. Fire marshals are also trained to step up and take charge in the event of a fire, clearing their dedicated section as quickly and safely as possible, and assisting anyone who needs extra help. It is their responsibility to then check the section room by room to make sure no one has been left behind.
In House Training
It may be a remote location, but we still prefer to come to you to deliver our expert fire warden training in Aberdeen. It makes sense to demonstrate the risks and responsibilities in house, where those skills will be used, so candidates can see first hand what is expected of them. The course takes just four hours and is continually assessed so there is no final exam.
In house training saves both time and money compared to the cost of travelling across Scotland for training elsewhere.
